Drake has set a streaming release date for songs he first showed in his FOMO short film, according to a report from the source outlet. He confirmed the news during a Kick livestream on Monday (Sept. 28), saying the music will arrive on major streaming services on Thursday (Oct. 1).
The release will not include everything from the film. “All the songs you guys have been asking for… well, not all of them, but enough of them, are coming on Thursday,” Drake said. He did not say which tracks would be included.
What is FOMO?
FOMO premiered on YouTube on Sept. 15 as an hour-long film. It features around a dozen new or reimagined songs. Among them are “Miss My Dawg” with Yeat, which has since appeared on Yeat’s Cocoon EP, as well as “Cold Shoulder” and a remix of “Choosin Texas” with Don Toliver. The film also includes “Be Free” with Gordo and a song called “Quebec.”
FOMO also presented new visuals for songs from Drake’s Maid of Honour and Habibti albums. Both were released in May alongside his Iceman album.
Drake’s message behind the project
Ahead of the film’s debut, Drake described it as “self funded surrealism. A story about making the absolute most of it all in one summer.” He also offered some advice to viewers: “Nobody is coming to save you.”
He went on to say that people should use each day to work out who they love and trust, and to move forward with those people. He said he hoped the film would motivate viewers to make that call, take that trip, drop that song, open that shop, see their parents, leave a relationship or stay in it forever, spend money and earn more.
The source material includes a video of Drake confirming the release date during the livestream. With the streaming release set for Oct. 1, fans will find out then which FOMO songs are included.
